Treatment Notes
Dermaneedling
Dermal Needling treatments use a vibrating tool, or roller with tiny needles to penetrate the upper layers of the skin. These can penetrate up to a depth of 2.5mm which causes thousands of punctures to the surface of the skin. This causes natural growth factors to be released, allowing nourishing hyaluranon to be infused deep into the skin, stimulating new collagen deposition. Hyaluranon is a natural carbohydrate already present in the skin which promotes hydration and cell communication.
Dermal Needling stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin in the skin, refines pore size, may soften fine lines, reduces scarring, improves texture and radiance and improves appearance of stretch marks. Brown pigment may also be reduced. A course of three treatments is recommended to achieve optimal results. As individual results vary, sometimes more or less may be needed. Results may take 12 weeks to appear fully. Not all imperfections will be removed.
You should not have treatment if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, have active skin disorders in the area, are currently physically unwell, are planning UV exposure in the next two weeks or have had sun exposure in the last two weeks, prone to keloid scarring, are on Roaccutane. Caution is required for patients with darker skin types or a history of melasma or post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Expect the area to be red and swollen, with a grazed appearance possible in some areas. This can last 1-4 days according to the sensitivity of your skin. You may notice tingling or stinging for 30-60 minutes afterwards. Skin may also flake off as new tissue regenerates from around 3-5 days. Post-inflammatory pigmentation (brown discolouration) is possible in darker skin types, especially if UV exposure is not avoided after treatment. Some people may experience some temporary side effects such as: discomfort, feeling of tightness, bleeding and bruising, and/or cold sore outbreak. Post treatment infection is a rare possibility.

Do not touch your skin for the first hour after treatment as the skin is open and you will risk causing infection. Avoid active skincare products for 3-4 days after treatment. Use the skin products recommended by your treating therapist. Protecting your skin from UV exposure with sunscreen is particularly important. No excessive exercise, including swimming for 12-24 hours after treatment. You may wear makeup to cover any bruises or redness the day following treatment. Please contact the Skin Institute if you have any concerns following treatment.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a gentle resurfacing treatment that uses a diamond tipped treatment head to remove dry, rough skin cells from your skin’s surface, promoting a more vibrant, glowing complexion. Treatment selectively loosens the dead cells and vacuums them away, leaving your skin smoother and more refined.
A course of treatment can clear clogged pores to reduce skin congestion. Removing the top layer of dead skin cells encourages skin circulation and cell renewal to improve your skin. Afterwards, your skin will absorb active, medical grade skin care more easily to maximize its effectiveness. It is the ideal treatment to have in combination with a peel.
You shouldn’t have microdermabrasion if you currently have inflamed or irritated skin, have recently had surgery to the area, have a skin infection, or can’t avoid UV exposure on the area for four weeks afterwards. Hormonal skin pigmentation like melasma may be aggravated by strong microdermabrasion treatments.
The special treatment tool is gently swept over your skin, loosening and removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores, revealing fresh new cells underneath. To finish, we apply a nourishing hyaluranon mask to hydrate and soothe your skin. Your skin will feel softer and smoother afterwards.
Your skin may be pink afterwards or have small red abrasions.
It is essential you protect your skin from sun exposure for four weeks following your treatment by wearing a hat and SPF 30+ sunscreen. Please contact Skin Institute if you have any concerns following your treatment.

LED Light Therapy
LED (Light Emitting Diode) therapy is a gentle light therapy that improves skin cell function resulting in clearer, more radiant skin. It is often used in combination with other aesthetic skin treatments and is suitable for all skin types.

Based on NASA research, LED Light uses coloured light to activate cellular process in our skin cells. This soothing, healing treatment does not break the skin surface.

LED can be used in an intensive course alone, or to assist healing after IPL, laser, dermal needling and peels. Treatment lasts from 5-20 minutes.

You should not have LED therapy if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, have a seizure disorder, have known cancer in the area, cannot tolerate heat or are sensitive to light.
Peels
A peel is a chemical exfoliation that increases cellular turnover. Peels reach different depths of the skin depending on the size of the molecule and time applied.

A peel can improve skin tone, help manage pigmentation, improve texture, firm your skin and manage breakouts. It can also hydrate your skin which can reduce the appearance of fine lines. Your therapist will recommend a series of treatments for optimal results. Your results may vary due to the age of your skin, previous sun damage, continued sun exposure, smoking, alcohol intake, diet, water intake, skin thickness and sensitivity.

You should not have a peel if any of the following apply; you are allergic to any ingredients in the peel, are pregnant or breastfeeding, unwell or have an infection at the treatment site, prior keloid scarring, less than a month after a deep skin resurfacing, recent facial surgery and sun exposure within 2 weeks.

For best results from your peel, please follow your pre-treatment regime as instructed by your therapist. If you interrupt your pre-treatment regime, please contact your practitioner promptly, as your appointment may need to be rescheduled. For 2 weeks prior to your treatment please do not have any waxing, depilatory use, laser hair removal or other chemical treatments in the treatment area. Remember to avoid sun exposure and notify us if you start any new medication, or experience any change to your health, as this may increase sensitivity to your peel.

The treated area may initially look red and swollen and might feel tender. Swelling settles within 24 hours, but occasionally may be prolonged, requiring an antihistamine. Your skin may be irritated or itchy, with peeling or flaking, for up to 10 days after your peel. It is important not to pick or scratch your skin during this time to avoid scarring. Cold sores can be triggered in predisposed individuals but can be prevented by medication. Small breakouts may occur that should self-resolve with time.

Rarely, infection can occur which may require futher medical management. There is a very small risk of lightening or darkening of the skin, which could rarely be permanent. To minimise this risk, it is improtant to follow your pre and post-treatment regime and avoid sun exposure.
